All about Arsenal Football Club

Stability is what wins titles

No it's not rocket science, but it is true none the less, a stable environment is what enables clubs to win titles because it effects how the team perform and whether they are looking for an out. And it's therefore no surprise that Arsenal are flying at present.

So what has changed? Starting with the team, Arsene has finally got a squad of Arsene players. In many positions they are interchangeable. We saw this against AZ when Cesc, RvP and L'il Andrey went off we got Ramsey, Eduardo and Tomas. Not exactly the same, they bring slightly different skills to the mix and Ramsey is no Cesc, at least not yet. But we didn't need to change shape or the way we played. That is important with the way we are playing this season. Being able to bring truly talented players on from the bench is what will see us through the season and I believe bring silverware to the club. At least on the surface the players seem to be getting along and without flogging a dead horse, I do wonder how much the dearly departed was a destabilising influence in the dressing room.

Speaking of destabilising, Arsene is well ticked off with attempts by Atletico Madrid to prise Fran Merida away. Seems like at least for the moment Cesc is no longer being linked with all and sundry so they have to pick on someone. Maybe it helps if you deny any interest in going anyway and your play suggests the same. Cesc does not look like a man with intentions of doing a runner any time soon, and that helps the stability. Try and remember the Vieira and Henry leaving sagas and the effect they had.

I don't think I am imagining it, but I recall Arsene saying he wanted to stay at Arsenal for life? Just found it again HERE. I wonder if he's realised that although he had decided to stay, not confirming it wasn't helping. Me, I see the hand of Ivan Gazidis in this and Cesc's continual denials. In fact Gazidis may turn out to be one of the best signings of the Wenger era. Since his arrival we have seen a distinct improvement in communication between club and fans and a continual re-stating of what is going on. It would be easy to dismiss, but he has brought considerable stability and also improved the stature and ethos of the club at the same time, for the first time since we moved home. We are becoming The Arsenal again if you get my drift.

You might think that Kroenke going up to the very edge of ownership might be a destabilising issue, but look at the signs. His last lot of shares was bought from Hill-Wood. Says something don't you think? In a reasonably short time he has moved from being 'his sort' to being entrusted by the board to provide the bulwark against Usmanov. I'm guessing that he does not intend to buy the club, more to prevent others with maybe not so transparent intentions from doing so. In any case, even if he should buy, he's a board member, he has the implicit backing of the other board members. Stability would continue.

So without stepping over the borders of reality, all the things that are required for a successful season are in place. Except perhaps one. We have seen it against the Hammers and AZ and it kinda happened a little last night. I'm not about to moan because that would be dumb and truth is when your 4-0 up, you're not going to bust a gut. But we need to absolutely make sure we see games out. It's a mindset as much as anything and once we achieve that mindset consistently, there is nothing that can stop us barring a significant number of major injuries. It's always great to be a Gooner, could be even better this season.
