Or at least he doesn't have the full double-helix. And how can we tell? He's not shooting his mouth off at every possible opportunity!
No-one could fail to notice that Barca players, staff, and the hombre who checks tickets on the gate have been running off at the mouth pretty much non-stop. Now I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but the similarities between what has been said may to some look like a PR script. Not that the wonderful Barca would stoop so low as to tap anyone up. No I couldn't possibly suggest that.
What we haven't heard or seen is Cesc look into the camera and say he wants to leave Arsenal. I don't doubt for one minute that he wants to play sit on the bench for Barca, and he may have thought that now was the time it could happen. But that's the point of this, timing. The only comments on timing have come from those arrogant gits at Barca. I'm thinking Cesc is testing the water and then stepping back to see what happens.
I have to say if that is what is happening then I am disappointed in him. This last season has seen him emerge as nearly the finished article, not because of Barca, but because of Arsenal. I think he should give us a couple more seasons playing at that level before running out on us.
But why might he have decided now is the time to cut and run? Sadly there are a number of negatives which may have played on his mind. We were told unequivocally that Arsenal would win a trophy last year, and we didn't. Whether Arsène made Cesc that sort of promise we can only guess, but he made it to us and it didn't happen. I can't be the only one who wishes Le Prof would be more circumspect with his use of words at times, including his promises of top, top players.
It has also occurred to me that Cesc saw what happened to Eduardo, he saw what happened to Rambo and did the math. Whilst neanderthals continue to be lauded by other neanderthals for breaking bones and maybe in the case of Eduardo, curtailing his career as a result, what are the chances that it will happen to Cesc at some point. I'm not saying he's bottled it or anything, but who of us would deliberately put ourselves in that position? And no, the irony of someone with his DNA actually breaking Cesc's leg is not lost on me.
So will he go? I hope not, I think if he stays he will retain his commitment to our cause because that seems to be his character. But the reason I want him to stay more is that having said we won't sell him, the club need to stick to that, if only to prove that Barca do not have any divine right to get their own way. I also hope that Cesc puts two and two together and realises that Barca only want him if they can get him for way below his market price and are agitating for precisely that. Pretty dysfunctional family if you ask me.
We will definitely (maybe) get some movement on defence before the end of the World Cup, apparently. Let's hope it's a tad more definite than the definitely get it sorted before the World Cup starts we heard previously. Sometimes Arsène reminds me of those characters in action movies who promise their dying buddy they will make sure everything turns out fine. It's not within their power to do so in a similar way it's not within Arsène's power to promise something unless he actually has a signature drying on a piece of paper. Let's face it, todays football players seem to be able to be lifelong fans of any team that wants to sign them if the numbers stack up. And their agent doesn't have any better offers in his back pocket.
But we do now have a new striker. Hopefully this one manages to stay a step in front of the neanderthals or doesn't make the mistake of being just too quick for them. Or have broken a number of mirrors in their past and so get injured every 2.4 matches. He looks good and will give Bendtner pause for thought. Not sure that happens too much with Bendtner, but you can hope. Incidentally he was showing some nice moves at the World Cup before he inevitably had to go off through injury. Surprisingly RvP was still standing at the end of the match. It won't last.
Speaking of the World Cup, is it my imagination or have FIFA managed to completely ruin the competition by using the Jabba the Hutt ball? I have never seen so many shots go so far over the bar in any competition I can remember, and it ain't just the altitude. Unusual to see so many goalkeeping errors as well, OK except for an Ingerland keeper spilling the ball. We have to have one of those or it isn't really a World Cup. Just the one though please....
Very much against my better judgement I find myself being sucked in to the World Cup. Now someone has started playing football, I can justify it on aesthetic grounds. Shame it's Germany and Argentina though. Still tonight we have another of those moments where you know the whole country is setting itself up for a fall, expectations are sufficiently high that we have convinced ourselves we have a team of world-beaters and are in with a good shot of winning the damn thing. If there was a parallel universe World Cup we just might assuming that in a parallel universe the Faroe Islands were the top team. Oops, apologies to those north of the border.
Trouble is that our much vaunted world class players may only be world class in the Premiership because of the world class foreign Johnnies they play with. It's a thought. Still it's hard to believe we could have a team with enormous individual potential who can't play with each other and seem to barely communicate on any level other than with malevolent glance at each other and their coach. Let's face it, we could be France. Yeah, right. I realise for a Gooner that opens up a bit of a can of worms so far as other teams supporters are concerned, but at least we don't try and pretend that an Argentinian shares the same DNA as we do.
