All about Arsenal Football Club

Well done Cesc, now come home

Lest we forget to be proud, Cesc has achieved something that neither Xavi nor Messi could. Unlike Xavi he supplied the assist for Iniesta to score, and unlike Messi, he now has a World Cup winners medal. Now I think that's quite impressive.

It was a constant source of bemusement to me throughout the World Cup that Da Boss, or whatever his name is, consistently refused to play the one mid-fielder who knew which way was forward. Yes, as an Gooner I am all too aware of the irony of that comment, but it doesn't make it untrue. It's not being overly myopic to suggest that had Cesc not been brought on, we would probably had the penalty thing. Actually as a mostly neutral, I quite hoped we might, but you can't argue with a psychic octopus.

During what was laughably considered to be a 'summing up' of the pundits after the match, I was struck by the hypocrisy in exactly the same way as Arseblogger. Having read his blog the next day I realised this and wasn't sure whether being that much in agreement with him was worrisome. After all some of his posts have been a tad existential. But in the end I decided it was a marker of great insight and intelligence, though not quite sure how. Anyway, the pundits were pants.

It was inevitable that being with a bunch of classless Barca types for so long, the Cesc to Barca thing was going to come to a head one way or another. What is surprising is that there is a fair chance that when everyone in Madrid has sobered up, they might decide that actually hijacking the national celebration to make a point for Barca, is a bit insulting to Real Madrid. Talk about your own back yard! Either way the shirt stunt was nothing but that. To quote from Forest Gump "Stupid is as stupid does". I think we have our proof gentlemen.

Still Barca have now very generously given us a time extension so we can realise that s** off is Catalan for 'we're ready to deal'. Amazing, what are the odds we should have such a specific misunderstanding in translation?

So we read that Cesc is playing us to get a move, he hasn't come out and said anything to suggest he doesn't want to go to Barca, and on and on and on. It's a great shame so many have come to such certain conclusions based on such little actual information. When I say actual information, I don't mean reading NewsNow and picking the blogs that most agree with your already formed conclusions. The facts are that there are precious few facts, and all of them point to Cesc still being an Arsenal player for the coming season. Everything else is speculation and regurgitation.

Everybody filters what they read according to what they already believe, so we have to assume that some have rather more specific filters than others. Or maybe are operating under some unstated agenda. I couldn't possibly comment. One thing I will say, all that Barca have been doing is specifically drive a wedge between Cesc and Arsenal. The team, the board, the manager and the supporters. Be careful how you choose to interpret what you see and hear, and please don't do Barca's job for them.

On a bright note, I realised that the new home shirt for this season is almost exactly the same as the very first Arsenal shirt I had when my dad bought me a full kit as a kid. Not sure why, but that's got to be a good omen surely?

Do you think its fair to stop someone going home and playing for the club they love the most (who coincidentally happen's to be the best club side in the world at the moment), and be surrounded by all their family and childhood friends? Do you really think the stunt with the shirt was total innocence on Cesc's side? Do you think the Barca players did that with some confidence he wouldn't resist (bare in mind they've spent the whole summer together)? Do you think if say some Spurs players had once tried to put a Spurs shirt on say Tony Adams or Ian Wright, they'd have just let them do it with no resistance and stood there smiling like the cats got the cream? Do you think Cesc's not saying anything because he wants to stay at Arsenal? Why isn't Cesc getting angry about the stunt and condemning it?

I think you get the point, the only way this is going to stop is if Cesc want's it to stop. It may take a year, but if players wanna go to so called bigger clubs, then eventually they get their way, the player holds the most power in these struggles, look at Alonso and Ronaldo, their clubs didn't wanna sell, but eventually player power won the day!! These footballers sign contracts, but when your on as much money as they are, and have the power they have, they can easily break them!! The contract is so the club can demand the fee, it's security to a pay day - nothing else!!!

Sounds to me like you're on the wrong blog site as this is meant to be Arsenal fans. Let's just all give up then and let Cesc go to Barca as they have been so noble and creative in their 'stunt'. Makes me heave just thinking about 'fans' who just give in to pressure. Cesc is under contract - he didn't whinge when he signed, he didn't whinge when he was given a massive pay increase and he looks pretty happy as the captain - or would you rather see him warming his arse on the Barca bench?

As a matter of fact, and in the absence of any real facts, I don't think Cesc had anything to do with the shirt stunt. And I'm simple enough to think that a contract not signed under duress should be stood by.

Call me biased but, in my view, Cesc is a better player than either Iniesta or Xavi. Every time he was brought on as a substitute, he made a significant difference to the efficacy of the Spanish team. Xavi & Iniesta seem to epitomize what everyone criticizes Arsenal for; they are great at passing sideways and will go on doing that all day and all night but they rarely create any penetration. Cesc was only on for a short while but twice got into scoring positions and made the killer pass that won the game for Spain. It is no coincidence that Spain only scored 7 goals in 8 matches at the World Cup.

I agree, and cannot for the life of me see why he wasn't given more playing time.

Why don't we give Barcelona a taste of their own medicine by telling them exactly what we think of their behaviour? Here's the email address: oab@fcbarcelona.cat

Would advise everyone to keep the content of all emails as clean as possible!

Unfortunately Cesc has tasted a winners medal and his desire for more will have ony increased. His reasons for leaving - lack of trophies/ medals + disillusionment with wenger's stubborness to only shop and Lidl, orAldi or the bins of other clubs for frees. God how we the great club Arsenal deserve so much better than this.

Last year we were told there was £30 million to spend. £11 million was spent on Vermaelen whilst the sales of Toure and Adebayor raised approximately £37 million but yet the most Wenger has to spend on players for this season is £30 million- how the hell does this work?

In all likelihood Arsenal’s experience will see them qualify for the Champions League yet again but unless Wenger splashes some cash on experienced class then hurts to say this but further disappointment awaits.

Wow, you must know Cesc really well if he's been so forth-coming to you about why he wants to leave. Either that or you're making assumptions based on what you think he should think.
