And the FA Cup. And the Champions League.
Funny really, since I don't feel Arsenal have anything to prove against the Spuds, I don't really have any feelings about last night other than a mild embarrassment at the score. Even then it feels better than say losing on penalties or away goals. So if this has to happen every nine years, oh well, the rest of the ride is well worth it.
Let's face it, if a team defends like we did, even the mighty Havant & Waterlooville could have scored against us, and the writing was on the wall from early on. Once Bendtner nicked an own goal and hit the bar from not very far out when we were 3-0 down, you just knew it wasn't going to happen. I have to say that it convinced me more that Bendtner isn't as good as he thinks he is, and quite frankly not withstanding my support for Theo, his performance leaves me very concerned for him. His head is not right at the moment and I'm guessing he may have taken Arsene's comments about his development to heart. He also looked physically light-weight which is also a bit of a concern.
What the game did confirm is that assuming an injured RVP, Ade and Eduardo are our best forward pairing at present and should be played at every opportunity. It showed that Gilberto needs to find another role other than holding midfielder if he is to be any benefit to the club now. Trouble is I don't know what that might be. Flamini needs to be resigned asap if not sooner and Traore may be the next Clichy, but is nowhere near yet. We also learnt that even Smiling Billy has an off day now and then.
What does it mean for the rest of the season? Nothing. I can't see the Super Kev factor lifting the Barcodes sufficiently to beat us because unless he's learnt a lot about football whilst away, he is still tactically naive. I fully expect us to get through the next round for that reason, assuming we actually turn up on the day. They can't win it, but we can lose it if we are unfocussed.
Milan are a different proposition now compared to earlier in the season. I am somewhat less confident now, but given our first team of choice playing as they can, I think we are a match for anyone. That's a lot of variables though. Bovvered? Well maybe just a teensy bit.
