You need to be looking for signs in the sky, portents of doom and all that stuff. Why? Well because I find myself agreeing with Fat Frank, that's why. He said of the 'brawl', "People might say it's disappointing, but when you play a cup final at this level that incident showed how much players wanted to win it." There you go. To my mind it was a load of handbags and was caused by players who want to win meeting other players who wanted to win and getting upset with each other.
Of course the FA have once again shown their double standards in that they are taking retrospective action and bringing further charges. Now I'm all for retrospective action as long as the FA are consistent, but the number of times they have refused to take retrospective action for offences which have been brought to light by tv replays makes nonsense of their actions in this case. And personally I would rather Hackett kept his mouth shut as well. He's in charge of the refs, one might consider his need to say anything about any other person as somewhat self-promoting.
So what did we learn? Well we learnt that JT has a head like stone. I was appalled when I saw the injury and was very pleased to hear how quickly he had got over it. He even managed to injure Diaby's foot at the same time! Seriously though I understand it was touch and go and Arsenal physio Gary Lewin may have saved his life. I'm glad, in the end it's a game and not even worth bad injuries, let alone loss of life.
We learnt that triangles trump diamonds. If the Chavs play with their central midfield diamond you can get around and/or through by those passing triangles Arsenal can be so good at.
We learnt that if Theo plays in the centre, he scores goals. The ones he has scored for England came through the middle if memory serves. His touch is wasted on the wings.
We learnt that Arsene misunderstands Baptista in that the only reason he could have kept him on is because of his size. He may be big, but he is definately one of the most frustrating players we currently have, moving from the sublime to the ridiculous with consummate ease. I thought Aliadiere was playing better than Baptista and should not have been the player to come off.
We learnt that Kolo can lose his temper, much to my surprise.
We learnt that Eboue may have a future in extreme fighting if the football thing doesn't work out (allegedly).
So much to learn, so little time. Blackbores next up, whoever's left standing plays I guess.
Tim, a mate of mine, has started a blog at http://sportingreflections.blogspot.com/ which covers other sports as well as footy. He assures me there are other sports apart from Arsenal, and as he is a Gooner I have to believe him, so why not visit and make up your own mind.
