All about Arsenal Football Club

Blimey!

"It didn't seem to me that Arsenal created loads of chances, and I don't think that Juventus were dominated". A quote from Juve coach Capello. Was he watching the same game? OK, I know he has to try and talk up his chances what with contract negotiations and being short-listed for Real an' all, but really.

Yesterday we saw another top European team play badly against us, not because they were bad, but because we were so good. And don't let anyone tell you different. This is the reigning Italian champions and current leaders by 8 points, and we ended up regretting not scoring more. Unbelievable. Today even more than normal, I am proud to be a Gooner.

Arsene's teams have always run on confidence, when it's not there we get beat by teams who shouldn't get anywhere close to us. When it is there, we get a performance like last night. You could see the realisation dawn on the team as the match went on that they really did have what it took to take the game to Juve and as a result the passing, timing and passion grew. Seems unfair to single out players, but King Kolo had a monster game, and Cesc played as well if not better better than Paddy in his pomp. He certainly made a bigger impression, how good can he get?

What I do hope is that the sell Bobby faction will now quieten down. What we saw last night was a senior player playing like he really does want to stay at Arsenal, and for goodness' sake, a sliding tackle on Paddy which set up the attack for the first goal? Who was that masked man? Said it before, we need to make sure he stays for at least another season. He's not past it, he doesn't get injured every other game, so he's still got something to offer. It was his play that allowed Cesc so much room in midfield.

Can we progress? Yes I honestly think we can. The defence is playing like an Arsenal defence, the midfield has some bite to it and we still have the best forward in the world aided by some other pretty decent attackers. I think Juve should be more worried than us about the return leg, although I think their tactics could be a little different. The only concern after last night is if they pack the midfield more, but having to score two means this is not so likely. Remember we haven't conceded in 7 CL games now, and I definately rate our chances of nicking an away goal.
