I was thinking this as I watched us nearly throw away another game because we can't finish more than maybe one in ten chances on Wednesday. Of course Ade wasn't the only culprit, but he painted the target on himself with whom he compared himself to in the close season.
OK he was our highest scorer last season, and respect to him for that, but how many times did he miss before and in between when he scored? And before everyone starts shouting, I'll get on to his good points so you understand this is a slag off Ade post, I'm just wondering is all.
Most of the time his work rate is pretty impressive and he's hard to mark as he roams all over the place. At times his touch is sublime, particularly when he is bringing balls down, whilst at other times he wouldn't look out of place in a pub football match. But can this be massively improved by effort and training or is it a matter of tweaking what you already have and that's all you can hope for. I suppose we have to look at TH14 to get some idea, trouble is, I don't know if he had the natural predatory skills before Arsene converted him into such an effective striker. Obviously he had something otherwise Le Prof wouldn't have attempted the transformation. I suppose time is on Ade's side as Thierry wasn't the full package as soon as he arrived, he got better and better, and with all the wonder goals he scored, it's worth remembering he did miss as well.
For what it's worth, I think Ade has all the skill required, the changes have to come from his thinking and decision making. I would rather he got really good at the simple stuff first before trying to score wonder goals bending the ball around the keeper etc. I think that's the difference between him and Eduardo. Eduardo keeps it simple and will on occasion attempt the spectacular, I can't get away from the feeling that Ade is constantly trying to make people notice him and I'm not sure whether his bravado is born of self-confidence or is just a front. My hope is that if that is an issue he gets his head around the fact he is a skilled footballer and therefore doesn't have to prove it at every opportunity.
So what is the world coming to? First Ol' Red Nose says nice things about Theo and the club, and now we find that he and Le Prof have started an Old Boys club and regularly go out on dates. It's just not right I tell you, we're living in strange times.
